Obituary for Hazel Frances Thompson (Grant)

Thompson, Hazel Frances (nee Grant)... born in Sudbury, Ontario on March 12, 1923 and died peacefully at the age of 91 years at the Trenton Memorial Hospital on April 18, 2014 in the presence of family. She will be greatly missed by her husband Ralph (Tommy) to whom she was married for 67 years. Devoted and loving mother to Patricia (John), Barbara (Ron), Debora (Gary), Bonnie, Gary (Annette) and Marion. Remembered by her grandchildren; Paul (Dee), Clare (Jim), Marc (Meaghan), Andrew (Hilary), David (Sarah), Amber, Sarah (Jack), Emily, Melissa, Sean, Kara, Scott and her great grandchildren; Robert, Alexis, Samuel, Cameron and Thomas. Hazel joined the RCAF Women's Division (6 RD) in 1943 where she met her husband. Tommy stayed in the forces after the war and they raised their 6 children in several parts of Canada, from Greenwood to Comox to Inuvik. Their last posting was CFB Trenton and they chose to enjoy their retirement in this community. At the age of 56, Hazel attended Loyalist College and completed her training as a Health Care Aide. Throughout her life Hazel took an active interest in her community and volunteered her time in a variety of programs. She was a member of St. George's Anglican Church and Royal Canadian Legion Branch #110. The family appreciates the compassionate and excellent care Hazel received from the staff at Belleville General Hospital and the Trenton Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends at the Weaver Family Funeral Home - West Chapel, 170 Dundas Street, Trenton on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 10-11 am with funeral ceremony and reception to follow. Canon Thora Rowe officiating. Interment at St. George's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Hazel's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, St. George's Church or the Trenton Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
