Obituary for Mary Smith (Nolan)

Mary Smith (Nolan)
Smith (Nolan), Mary Bernadine formerly of Trenton and Cornwall, Ontario and Harvey Stn, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully at Kensington Gardens Long-Term Care in Toronto, Ontario on November 16, 2014. Mary was born in Trenton on July 28, 1926 to Daniel Ambrose and Mary Ayres (Hontoon) Nolan. She was a loving wife to Glenn Winslow Smith of Central Blissville and Harvey Stn, New Brunswick for 58 years.
Mary is the last of her generation leaving her daughter Sandra Marie Smith, son-in-law Graham John Rempe, and three grandsons, Alexander Glenn, Nolan John, and Christian Nicholas from Toronto, Ontario, and her three nieces and their families, Linda (Rob) Robertson (Tyley & Anne) from Carrying Place, Ontario, Karen (Gord) Hurd (Thomas, Jason, Andrew, Nyla) from Oakville, Ontario, and Nancy Ritchie and her husband Denny Francis (Todd & Gavin) from Ottawa, Ontario. Mary was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister Geraldine (Nolan) Clegg and husband Jack, Trenton, and in-laws Thelma (Smith) Lawrence (Jack & Peter), Kelowna, BC, and Dorothy (Smith) Hoyt (Eric) and Norman Smith, Central Blissville, NB.
Mary worked both inside and outside the home throughout her active life, first as a bank teller in CIBC, Trenton and then as head teller at RBC, Cornwall, Ontario. When Glenn retired in 1981, they moved to Harvey Stn where she owned and operated one of the province’s oldest general stores, WWE Smith. She excelled at whatever she set her mind too, and was an outstanding tailor, designer, and creator of wardrobe and home. Mary’s family was always number one, whether health, nutrition, education or celebration, and she had a smile for all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends across the country. Arrangements in Ontario have been entrusted to the Weaver Funeral Home-West Chapel, 170 Dundas St. W, Trenton, and a memorial gathering will be held in Toronto at a later date. Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at the Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB (506-368-2413) on Saturday Nov 22 11am. Interment will be beside her husband in the Blissville United Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, condolences and donations to the Blissville Cemetery would be appreciated (sunburyfuneralhome.com). Dying is one of the few events in life that's certain to occur, yet one we rarely plan for. Should we spend more time preparing for a two week vacation than we do our last days on Earth?
