I remember the night Mr. Gevaert gave Amanda and I a ride. He asked Amanda if she had enough to have a good time that evening and told her not to forget to call him for a ride home. He told her not to worry about the boys he and her mom would be watching over them and for her to have a good time. I said, "Amanda, I am envious what you have with your dad, I wish I had that kind of relationship with my dad"..."What would you do without him?"...and Amanda said, "I don't know, and I never want to find out, I could never go without my "Daddy", as she reached over and gave him a kiss on the cheek and a hug and said "I love you Daddy"...then Mr. Gevaert said "I don't know what I'd do without you either"...then said "I love you too" and don't forget to call me when your ready and Amanda said "I will Daddy", "I love you Daddy". It brought a tear to my eyes and pulled at my heart to have only seen for such a short ride, only a few moments of time, such a beautiful father-daughter relationship like they have and to see how much Amanda treasured her dad. Mr. Gevaert, you will always be remembered by me as one of the most caring, loving dads I have ever known and I had the utmost pleasure meeting you and getting to see what a beautiful loving father-daughter relationship there could be between a father and daughter. Amanda, my heart pours out to you, the boys your mom, and your family. I hope you are able to find some comfort and peace knowing your dad is in God's loving arms now. Sweet dreams Mr. Gevaert, rest in peace.
